Free Rice

I don't use to many web based programs in the art room, mainly because we don't have time, but today I was looking for interesting sites for a computer center for my youngest artists and found this...Free Rice. This interactive site lets you get smarter and feed the hungry, at the same time. I cannot wait to share this with my art students.
Here's how it works.  Answer a multiple-choice question like the one below.  If you get it right you get a harder question.  If you get it wrong you get and easier question.  For each right question Free Rice will donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.  Get five questions right and Free Rice will donate 50 grains of rice to feed the hungry.  So here's a sample question for you to try: Olive Trees with Yellow Sun is by:
Franz Marc
Vincent Van Gogh
Pierre-Auguste Renoir
JMW Turner
Think you know the answer?  Go to Freerice.com and find out.

  2. I spent a little time there, donated a bunch of grains of rice ID'ing paintings and answering vocab. Now I'm wondering: who counts out individual grains of rice?! I did note that the same paintings seemed to repeat after a little while and the same artists. Anyhow, cool site.

By the way - I have not been to the Boston Aquarium in YEARS. I will be in Boston early August to pick up our son and drag him off to Maine with us, but doubt we'll get to the Aquarium. It will be the final day of the Chihuly exhibit so I've been promised we'll go to see it, and then my son will want to "show us around" his new home. Then off to Kennebunkport.

  3. By the way - what's going on w/your blog? Yesterday the background looked like something new, and today it's just plain white. Are you experimenting? I'm interested to see what's next!

  4. Phyl sounds like you have a lot of up and coming fun. Hope you'll share the Chihuly experience with us. I'm hoping to make it to Boston this summer, too. For those very reasons. Kennebunkport sounds like heaven with an ocean breeze.
Thanks for donating the grains. Cute isn't it? I kind of liked that the artists rotated around, good for kids because if you missed it they first time...
Anyway have a lovely trip. We're rally getting excited about and outdoor wedding in August (my beautiful son's)
